Welcome to our fifth newsletter which comes on the first day of the New Ethiopian Year 2015 - wishing everyone a "melkam addis amet"!
Here’s the latest news from Ethiopia and SimienEcoTours.
SimienEcoTours welcomes the first big groups

Considering the recent times of crisis (Covid & political situation) and the rain season which normally is low season for us, August 2022 has been an extraordinarily successful month for us. Beside some car rentals, a couple of Brazilian backpackers and 4 Italian professional photographers shooting in the Bale and Simien Mountains, we welcomed our first big international group since 2 and a half years. Our guide Elyas was lucky to travel with 17 Austrian clients for almost 3 weeks to the North and South of Ethiopia. A real motivation boost! Below a few photos which demonstrate that traveling in Ethiopia is possible and safe.
New modified trips and group tours ready to book

We noticed that certain target groups like families or aged people are still hesitating to book their Ethiopia holiday - it’s mostly backpackers, adventurers, solo travelers or young couples who are enquiring. All these or anyone else with a smaller budget can take advantage of our wide offer of group tours, ranging from short escape trips from Addis Ababa, 2 weeks full package classic tours with an international group, a new revised birdwatching tour with a small group, or the Ride the Rift outdoor adventures including extension packages. All of these group offers are listed with new departure dates until spring 2023 on our website under the group tour section.
First aid course for drivers and guides

Given the resume of domestic and international tourism it was time to refresh some of our first aid basics. With our Ride the Rift partners we conducted a one day first aid training for our guides, drivers and even office staff.
SimienEcoTours and Marco on the German TV

Last month the German, Austrian, Swiss and North Italian TV broadcasted on 3SAT and ORF a report about SimienEcoTours and one of its founders Marco. Here’s the 4min video (in German, but Youtube can add English subtitles).

SimienEcoTours exhibiting at the "Tourism and Technology Week"

In August 2022 the Oromia Tourism Commission organized the "Tourism and Technology Week" in the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa. SimienEcoTours was present as exhibitor and Marco as panelist on the topic of "Tourism and regional integration", among the new CEO of Ethiopian Airlines and other guests.
Staff leaving and new employments

Unfortunately in recent months we had to say goodbye to some of our staff members: Christian, Abebech and Fiorella left us for different private reasons (good luck to you all!), but we’re happy to announce the fresh employment of Zewditu, who has been supporting our office in Addis Ababa since the beginning of August. Here is our current squad.

After about 2 years of Covid and Tigray conflict, let’s hope that this new year 2015 will bring prosperity and peace to Ethiopia and abroad!
