"Ride the Rift" exhibiting at the ITB Berlin for the first time
In early March we have been in Berlin, exhibiting and networking in the adventure and sustainability hall 4.1 at the ITB. Beside meeting old and new partners, we took this as an opportunity to promote cycling and community based tourism products from Ethiopia. As Ride the Rift (which has a brand new website) we have been on stage presenting our latest bike tours in the Ethiopia Rift Valley. Our thanks goes to CBI from the Netherlands, which is constantly supporting us.
Filming Gelada baboons for one month
We continue to consolidate our name as professionals in the assistance for documentary shooting, now embarking in the French film industry. With our network we were able to secure a film permit in the crisis-shaken Amhara Region. So in May we supported a professional film crew from Kwanza who stayed in the Simien Mountain National Park for a full month, filming the Gelada baboon in their natural environment. We're happy to welcome them again in November for the second part of the shooting!
Promoting Ethiopia and SimienEcoTours to the association ASA
We’re happy to be a new member of "ASA - Anerkannte Spezialisten für Afrika Reisen", a German association in the travel industry specialized in South and East Africa. We already attended our first event organized by ASA: a workshop and promotional event arranged in Addis Ababa to connect local agencies to tour operators and travel agencies from German speaking countries. In the ASA Newsletter of May (available only in German language) you can find our article on the topic about the rainy seasons in Africa. We're glad about this good start of the collaboration and can't wait to engage further.
End of May we had some clients and went on a 4 days Ride the Rift bike trip with camping and lots of exploring in remote and rarely visited areas in Hadiya, Kembata, Halaba and Wolayta in the new Central Ethiopian Region. What an adventure we had! We can confidently say that the areas are safe for traveling, and soon we'll have tour packages ready to be booked.
Reopening of Axum Airport Finally, a short but good news from Tigray: the airport in Axum which was damaged during the Tigray war has been restored and on June 9th commercial flights have been resumed. This will definitely help us and other tour operators to bring back more tourists to Tigray. Source: Ethiopian Airlines website
